  • 1 bottle (12 oz) Beer lager, ale, or cider

  • 2 large Onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Butter unsalted or olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
Seasonings and Herbs
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme or ½ teaspoon dried thyme

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in an oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions with a sprinkle of salt and sauté for 15 minutes.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and 3 minced garlic cloves. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until caramelized.
  4. Push onions aside and add bratwursts to the skillet, searing for about 5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Pour in 1 bottle (12 oz) of beer and add fresh thyme. Deglaze the skillet by scraping the bottom.
  6. Cover with a lid and braise in the oven for 30-40 minutes until the bratwurst are tender.
  7. Let the skillet rest for a few minutes before serving with caramelized onions on top and mustard on the side.
