Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook for about 5–7 minutes until browned.
  3. Add 1 medium chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves to the skillet. Sauté for about 3–4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Transfer the beef mixture into the greased baking dish, creating an even layer at the bottom.
  5. Layer the thinly sliced potatoes over the beef mixture, ensuring they cover the beef completely.
  6. Sprinkle salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon of dried Italian seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon of paprika evenly over the potatoes.
  7. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the potato layer.
  8. Pour 1/2 cup of beef broth or water around the edges of the baking dish. If using, drizzle 1/4 cup of milk over the cheese layer.
  9. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes.
  10. Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
