  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil Can be replaced with melted butter or refined coconut oil.
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract Optional to substitute with vanilla or lemon extract.
For the Buttercream Frosting
  • 1/4 cup Flour Key for thickness in the buttercream.
  • 1 cup Milk Heavy cream can be used for a richer frosting.
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Use for smooth frosting.

Method
 

Preparing the Cake
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix white cake mix, egg whites, vegetable oil, and almond extract until smooth.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Cool cakes in pans for 10-15 minutes and then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Preparing the Buttercream Frosting
  1. Whisk together flour and milk in a saucepan, stir until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  2. Cool the mixture, then combine with powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, and place the second layer.
  2. Frost the top and sides of the cake and smooth using a spatula.
  3. Slice and serve the cake with fresh berries or vanilla ice cream.
