Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prep Tzatziki: In a mixing bowl, combine Greek yogurt, lemon juice, grated cucumber, and chopped dill. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Cook Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until browned.
  3. Season Beef: Once browned, sprinkle in oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne if using. Stir and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Warm Pita: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Wrap pittas in foil or place on a baking sheet. Warm for about 5 minutes.
  5. Assemble Gyros: Lay warm pita flat and fill generously with the beef mixture. Top with red onion, tomato, lettuce, and tzatziki. Sprinkle with feta if desired.
  6. Serve: Fold the pita around fillings, serve immediately. Consider pairing with extra tzatziki on the side.
