Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the waffle maker for about 5 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the egg, garlic powder (if using), and shredded cheddar cheese until well combined.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the waffle maker and cook for about 4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Repeat with the remaining batter to make the second chaffle.
  5. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  6. Place one chaffle in the skillet, add slices of American cheese on top, and cover with the second chaffle.
  7. Grill the sandwich for about 1 minute until golden, flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
  8. Remove from skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.
