Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Gently heat 1 cup of whole milk until it reaches 105°F. Remove from heat, sprinkle in 2 ¼ teaspoons of yeast, and stir. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together ½ cup of melted unsalted butter and 1 large egg until well combined. Fold in the yeast mixture.
  3. In a stand mixer, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix on low speed.
  4. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients while mixing. Knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for 45 minutes to 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. After rising, punch down the dough and divide into 10 pieces, shaping each into a ball. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash and optionally sprinkle sesame seeds before baking.
  8. Bake the buns in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.
