  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil or other cooking oils
  • 1 medium Onion can substitute with shallots
  • 2 cloves Garlic or garlic powder in a pinch
  • 4 medium Potatoes can use sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese may substitute with Monterey Jack
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese optional
  • 1 tbsp Dried Italian Seasoning can use oregano and basil
  • 1 tsp Paprika smoked paprika for more depth
  • 1 tsp Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Pepper to taste
  • 1 cup Beef Broth or Water can use vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup Milk optional; use dairy-free for vegan
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley for garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Cook the ground beef until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Transfer the meat mixture to the baking dish, and layer thinly sliced potatoes over the beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  5. Sprinkle shredded cheddar and optional Parmesan cheese over the potatoes, then pour broth or water around the edges. For extra creaminess, drizzle milk on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let rest for a few minutes before garnishing with parsley and serving.
