Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Melt the butter in a medium-sized pot over medium heat until bubbly but not browned.
  2. Sauté the onion and garlic for 1-2 minutes until the onion is translucent and garlic is fragrant.
  3. Sprinkle in the turmeric powder and mix well for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add the rinsed basmati rice and toast for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the stock along with salt and black pepper; bring to a rapid boil.
  6. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer the rice for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. Remove from heat, allow to sit covered for 5-10 minutes, then fluff gently with a fork.
