Ingredients
  

For the Pudding
  • 6 cups Stale Bread Can use French bread, buns, or donuts.
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Salted or unsalted, as per preference.
  • 4 large Eggs Beaten well for fluffiness.
  • 2 cups Milk Cream can be used for richer flavor.
  • 1 cup White Sugar Adjust to taste, or use brown sugar.
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract Almond extract can be substituted.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Optional but recommended for warmth.
  • 1 cup Raisins Can be replaced with chocolate chips or nuts.
For the Brown Butter Vanilla Sauce
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar Maple syrup can be a substitute.

Method
 

Pudding Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  3. Break the stale bread into 1 to 2-inch chunks and place evenly in the baking dish.
  4. Melt the remaining butter and drizzle it over the bread pieces.
  5. Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined and frothy.
  6. Pour the custard mixture over the bread pieces, pressing down to soak.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes until golden-brown.
  8. While baking, prepare the optional brown butter vanilla sauce by melting butter and mixing in brown sugar and cream.
  9. Serve the warm bread pudding with the optional sauce drizzled on top.
