Preparation
- Melt 1 ¼ cups of unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Combine melted butter with 1 cup of quick oats, 1 cup of all-purpose flour, and 1 cup of packed brown sugar in a large bowl.
- Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake at 325°F for 10 minutes.
- Melt ¼ cup of butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add 1 cup of packed brown sugar, and stir until dissolved.
- Incorporate ½ cup of milk and combine until creamy.
- Bring the caramel mixture to a gentle boil and stir continuously for about 3 minutes until thickened.
- Remove the crust from the oven, pour the caramel filling over it, and sprinkle the reserved crust mixture on top.
- Bake the assembled bars at 300°F for an additional 20 minutes.
- Cool completely in the pan for about 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
