- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
- Arrange about 40 saltine crackers in a single layer on the lined baking sheet.
- In a medium saucepan, combine unsalted butter and packed brown sugar. Melt over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for about 3 minutes until bubbly and thickened.
- Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers and spread quickly with a spatula.
- Bake for 5 minutes until toffee is bubbling all over.
- Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee. Let sit for 2-3 minutes to melt.
- Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer and sprinkle desired toppings while still warm.
- Chill the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to set completely.
- Once chilled, lift the batch out of the pan using the foil overhang and break into pieces.
