  • 1 pound lean ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken
  • 4 medium potatoes Russet or Yukon Gold, sliced thinly (about 1/8 inch)
  • 1 medium onion finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can cream soup cream of mushroom or cream of chicken
  • 1 cup cheese blend of sharp cheddar and mozzarella
  • ½ cup milk or heavy cream
  • to taste seasonings salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook 1 pound of lean ground beef with 1 finely diced onion until browned. Drain excess grease, then stir in 3 minced garlic cloves and seasonings. Add in one can of cream soup and ½ cup of milk.
  3. Slice potatoes into thin rounds, approximately 1/8 inch thick.
  4. Layer the bottom of the baking dish with a portion of sliced potatoes, half of the beef mixture, and sprinkle a generous amount of cheese. Repeat layers, ending with a layer of potatoes and cheese.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
