Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat. Brown the sliced Italian sausage for about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add diced onion and carrot, sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
  3. Blend half of the cooked Italian white beans with 1 cup of chicken broth until smooth, then set aside.
  4. Add the blended bean mixture, remaining white beans, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to the skillet. Simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  5. Stir in chopped kale and browned sausage. Cover and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the kale wilts.
  6. Remove the bay leaf, squeeze lemon juice over the dish, and adjust seasoning if necessary.
